GreenZeta is the personal playground of Matthew Wilber, a senior web developer with a long history of building software across industries and platforms. Whether he’s working full-time as a Senior Software Engineer or tinkering with a hobby project late at night, the common thread is the same: building things that are interesting, playful, and technically curious. This site is a collection of insights and ideas, from practical tools to intentionally pointless experiments, all driven by whatever technology happens to be exciting at the moment.
That mindset comes from experience. Chasing grand ideas rarely leads anywhere, and tiny demos don’t stick long enough to matter. Instead, Matthew treats side projects as a sandbox: something entertaining enough to stay motivated, but substantial enough to learn from. That approach has paid off repeatedly. Side projects have become long-running experiments, and experiments have quietly fed back into professional work, including production-level AI features used in modern software.
Hovering over much of this work is Alpha Zeta, a small green alien with a long and accidental history. Inspired by a childhood fascination with UFO lore and classic sci-fi’s “little green men,” Alpha began life as a series of alien doodles, then failed comic strips, and eventually found his footing as a visual sidekick in blog posts and developer talks. Originally conceived as part of a larger crew of alphabetically named extraterrestrials, Alpha evolved. Over time, he became both a jester and a trademark: a way to keep things light, to make technical ideas more approachable, and to clearly mark the work as unmistakably GreenZeta.
Today, Alpha shows up everywhere for a simple reason: he gives permission to be a little weird. He bridges the gap between serious engineering and creative experimentation, and he reflects the mindset behind the work itself: curious, playful, and unconcerned with looking overly polished. If something here makes you smile first and think second, that’s by design.
